Martha Sheeley

CHAFFEE - Martha Mae Sheeley, 82, died at 7:43 a.m. May 6, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Jan. 11, 1921, in Chaffee, daughter of the late Luther Lee ad Anna Johnson Arnold, she retired as a machine operator for Thorngate Ltd. in Chaffee. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Delta and VFW Post 3127 Ladies Auxiliary in Chaffee.

On Feb. 2, 1936, she married Ray Surface who preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 1959. She and John Sheeley were married May 22, 1965, and he died on March 9, 1966.

Survivors include: one son, Roy L. Surface of Chaffee; one daughter, Anna Brinker of St. Louis; one brother, Luther L. Arnold Jr. of Cape Girardeau; four sisters, Bernadean Kerley and Elsie Freeman of Chaffee, Glendola Shell of Scott City and Beulah Simpher of Cape Girardeau; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation begins at 6 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Dan Baggett will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Kenyon Cemetery near Delta.
