NEW MADRID -- A 17-year-old Lilbourn resident sustained fatal injuries in a one-vehicle accident early Saturday morning.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 12:20 a.m., Jason L. Tope was traveling westbound in New Madrid County on Route U, two miles west of New Madrid, when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway into a ditch and overturned. Tope was partially ejected through the driver's side window.
Tope was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:09 a.m. by New Madrid County Coroner Tim Clayton. Funeral services can be found in today's issue on page five.
