SIKESTON - The flooding of the intersection of Greer and Maple streets that occurred at approximately 4 a.m. Monday was caused by a broken 12-inch-diameter water main.
The break in the main was located on Maple Street just south of the Maple Street/Malone Avenue intersection. The cause of the break is unknown.
Utility crews worked throughout the day until about 8:30 p.m. to repair the broken main. Repairs are still under way to the damaged street.
The Board of Municipal Utilities officials expressed their sincere apology to the home owners and businesses in the area for any inconvenience that may have resulted from the flooding and for the extended period without water while repairs were made to the main.
