FREDERICKTOWN - James Leon McDaniel, 79, formerly of St. Louis and Charleston, died at 10:20 p.m. Aug. 18, 2002, at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center in Farmington.

Born Dec. 19, 1922, in Paragould, Ark., son of the late James and Sarah Clark McDaniel, he operated McDaniel Plumbing until relocating to St. Louis in 1966, where he was employed by the Telco Company until retiring in 1985, when he moved to Fredericktown. He was a 20-year veteran of the Missouri National Guard and served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Jan. 26, 1946, he married Daisy P. Carrington who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, James "Tommy" McDaniel of Callahan, Fla.; three daughters, Linda Bone of South Haven, Miss., Brenda McDaniel of Iowa City, Iowa, and Wanda Armstrong of Fredericktown; two sisters, Patsy Holley and Ola Drury of Charleston; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Four sisters, Myrtle Dieckmeyer, Bea Toney, Agatha Martin and Inez Collier, preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McMikle Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday. Bill Welshans of Vicksburg, Miss., will officiate.

The Missouri Military Funeral Honors Program will conduct graveside services at Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: Howard Toney, David Toney, Landis Williams, Charles Holley, James Martin and Fred Drury.
