Frances Hill
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Frances Leigh Hill, 93, formerly of Charleston, Mo., died Aug. 18, 2002, at the Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.
Born May 13, 1909, at Capleville, Tenn., daughter of the late Eugene G. and Kittie Bernard Howard, she was a graduate of Charleston High School. She attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and had taught in one-room schools in rural Mississippi County, Mo., for 10 years. She then worked for the Bryant Hill Insurance Agency, now known as the Brink Insurance Agency in Charleston for 25 years before retiring. A charter member of the Athena Club in Charleston, she was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Charleston, where she served in various capacities, including Sunday school teacher, church treasurer and treasurer for the WMU.
On March 28, 1931, she married Paul Hill who preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1999.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Howard.
Survivors include: one special chosen son and his wife, Joe and Shirley Lewis of Birmingham and their sons, Paul Lewis and Page Lewis.
She is also survived by: a niece and her husband, Jeanne and Allan Webster of Montevallo, Ala., and their daughter, Yancy Peek of Montevallo; one brother- and sister-in-law, Charles H. and Grace Hill of Sikeston, their daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Lynn Hasty of Sikeston and son Michael Hasty of Sikeston; and their son and daughter-in-law, Charles David and Joan Hill of Oran and daughter, Renee Hill of Oran. Her nephew, Richard Gene Hill of Atlanta, Ga., also survives.
Her nephew, Paul W. Hill of Charleston, son of Charles and Grace Hill, is the namesake of Mrs. Hill's husband, the late Paul Hill. He and his former wife, Luanne Staples Hill of St. Louis, are the parents of: one son and his family, Scott and Janelle Hill and their children, Kayla Hill, Colten Hill and Caine Hill of St. Louis; three daughters, Heather Leigh Hill of Charleston, who was known as "Uncle Paul's Buddy," Robbin Hill Hansen of St. Louis and Amy Hill Snyder and her son, Jordan of St. Louis.
The nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews affectionately called Frances and Paul Hill "Unk" and "Auntie."
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gerald Collier, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
Pallbearers will be: Glennon Johnson, Smith DeLine, Jim Burden, Jack Farmer, Charles Brink and Bill Frazier.
