Willard Newberry

SIKESTON - Willard E. Newberry, 82, a resident of the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, died at 4:45 a.m. April 11, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born March 28, 1921, in Carthage, son of the late Byron O. and Lenna Maynard Newberry, he was a repeater man for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years before retiring. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member at the First Baptist Church in Sikeston, where he also served as a deacon.

On May 10, 1946, in Springfield, he married Doris M. Erickson who survives of Ruston, La.

Other survivors include: three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Mary Newberry of Katy, Texas, Jim and Judy Newberry of Cape Girardeau and the Rev. David and Sandy Newberry of Ruston; one half sister, Rowena Hodge of Clever; and seven grandchildren.

One brother and three sisters preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday. His son, the Rev. David Newberry will officiate.

Burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora.
