Anna Matthes

KIRKWOOD - Anna Elizabeth Matthes, 86, died April 8, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Kirkwood.

Born Dec. 4, 1916, in Dexter, daughter of the late Michael and Mary Dietsch Litzler, she was a member of the former St. Casimir Parish Catholic Church in St. Louis County. She retired as an inspector for Carter Carburetor in St. Louis, after 40 years of service, and was a member of the Carter Carburetor Retiree's Association.

In September 1952, in St. Louis, she married Walter Matthes who preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1980.

Survivors include: one stepson, James Matthes of St. Louis; one stepdaughter, Judy Bible of St. Louis; and two sisters, Clara Klinkhardt of Farmington and Rita Bader of Dexter.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Fred Litzler, Leonard Litzler and Anton Litzler; and three sisters, Lillian Dieter, Christine Smith and Mary Litzler.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where a rosary is scheduled for 8 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter with the Rev. John Sheley officiating.

Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
