CHARLESTON -- Charleston took down Dexter in a battle of undefeated tennis teams on Monday, beating the Bearcats 7-2.

"I thought we played well," said Charleston coach Mitch Baker. "I guess we're starting to get used to these windy matches."

In varsity singles, Alec Peterson defeated Dexter's Jake Smith 8-2. Kyle Kemp was defeated by Dexter's Drew Wethington 8-2, then Blake Branum was beat by Dexter's James Ford 9-7.

In the No. 4 spot, Lee Hess defeated Dexter's Derrick Roberts 8-1. Derek Hoppe beat Dexter's Ben Smith 8-4, then Jake Gerrard edged Dexter's Nathan Long 9-7.

"I was proud of the way we fought," said Baker. "Gerrard was down 6-3 at one point and came back and won. We played pretty scrappy today. Dexter has a good team."

In varsity doubles, Peterson and Kemp beat Wethington and Ford 8-3. Branum and Hess swept Jake Smith and Roberts 8-0, then Hoppe and Gerrard defeated Ben Smith and Long 8-5.

Charleston's junior varsity winners were Josh Moxley and Drew Kemp. The Bluejays (3-0) will be back in action today, hosting Cape Central.
