CHARLESTON - Michael Grimes of GH Home Furnishings in Charleston was a speaker at the National NARDA Institute of business Management Oct. 11-14 at the Whispering Woods Conference Center in Memphis.

Grimes spoke on Successful Small Business Management. He covered such topics as business organization, sales training and promotion.

NARDA, the North American Retailers Dealers Association, was established for independent retailers 60 years ago. It is one of the leading educational and business groups in the United States.

The NARDA Institute seeks to help independent retailers learn new skills and strategies to out-manage, out-motivate and out-maneuver the competition. It is open to any small retailer. More information is available at www.narda.com.

SIKESTON - Sikeston lawyer Manuel Drumm was honored earlier this month as a "Senior Counselor" of the Missouri Bar.

The "Senior Counselor" title is bestowed upon lawyers who have reached the age of 75 or who have been admitted to the Missouri Bar for 50 years. The recognition ceremonies came during the opening luncheon at The Missouri Bar Annual Meeting which took place Oct. 1-3 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia.

A total of 102 members of the Missouri Bar were presented with the designation at the luncheon.

FARMINGTON - Two former Sikeston residents are part of the operation of U.S. Banks in east central Missouri.

Justin Pobst has been promoted to commercial loan officer at U.S. Bank's Farmington office at 2 North Washington. Heather DeWitt has joined U.S. Bank as a credit analyst.

Pobst, a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, holds a degree in business administration from Southeast Missouri State and joined the bank as a credit analyst. He will now be responsible for providing commercial loan services to the Mineral Area. Pobst, who grew up in Sikeston, resides with his wife, Merideth, in Farmington.

A recent graduate of the University of Missouri at Columbia with a business administration degree that has an economics emphasis, DeWitt was a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi and the Chi Omega sorority as well as a youth volunteer at Woodcrest Chapel. She is the daughter of Phil and Teresa DeWitt of Sikeston and currently resides in Farmington.

POPLAR BLUFF -- The third and final component in a series of electrical systems design and installation courses at Three Rivers Community College will start Oct. 20. The non-credit courses are suggested for persons with some previous electrical experience and are recommended for installers and industrial maintenance personnel or for students who want to prepare for electrical licensing tests.
