Opal Coombes

PEKIN, Ill. -- Opal L. Coombes, 92, formerly of Scott City, Mo., died at 2:58 p.m. March 13, 2003, at the Pekin Hospital.

Born Nov. 30, 1910, in Obion, Tenn., daughter of the late Jones C. and Mattie Baker Allen, she was a department manager of Stix, Baer and Fuller in St. Louis for 35 years, retiring in 1987.

On Oct. 26, 1930, she married William A. Coombes who preceded her in death on May 28, 1941.

She was also preceded in death by one son, William A. Coombes in 1985, two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include: her daughter-in-law, Judy Coombes of York, Pa.; one sister, Doris Vaughn of Manito; three grandchildren, Scott Coombes of Durham, N.C., Jimmie Coombes of Mount Wolf, Pa., and Franci Hedgeland of New Freedom, Pa.; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. Monday until service time at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. The Rev. Charles Lance will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Lightner Memorial Cemetery at Scott City.
