COLUMBIA, S.C. - Lester Jerome Limbaugh Jr., 74, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died Nov. 5, 2004, in Columbia, following a lengthy illness.
Born Aug. 28, 1930, in Sikeston, he overcame a difficult childhood to grow into a loving husband and father. After a four-year stint in the U.S. Navy, he moved to Cocoa, Fla., where he worked for the RCA Corporation in the earliest days of the development of analytic computers for use in missile guidance systems. Lester continued his work with computers for civilian applications over the next 30 years and retired as vice president for product development for the Harris Lanier Corporation in the early 1990s.
Lester was preceded in death by his loyal, faithful, beloved wife, Harriet.
He is survived by four grateful children: Virginia Shirey, Hunter Limbaugh, Sarah Redmond and Mark Limbaugh. Also surviving Lester are nine grandchildren, David, Garrett and Patrick Shirey; Benjamin and Leah Limbaugh; Ashleigh and Kayla Redmond; and Emma and Ryan Limbaugh.
A private service for the family was conducted today.
All of the children and grandchildren benefited immeasurably for having had Lester in their lives. They are eternally grateful for the wit and wisdom he so generously shared with them. The void left by his passing cannot be filled.
Dunbar Funeral Home of Columbia was in charge of arrangements.
