After another wild and crazy week of high school football, just one undefeated team stands in the SEMO Conference.
It's not Mitch Craft and the Cape Central Tigers, not William Moore and the Hayti Indians, not Remond Willis and the NMCC Eagles or Jimmy Jackson and the Caruthersville Tigers.
It's Trell Edington and the Poplar Bluff Mules.
PB continues to get it done -- winning games with offense, defense and some big-time special teams.
The Mules have posted some impressive wins so far, handing Dexter its worst loss of the season 31-8 and dismantling Farmington 31-0.
Poplar Bluff looks good. But are they good enough to beat surging Jackson?
The Indians' stock shot through the roof last Thursday with a 27-14 win over Cape Central.
Heading into the season, Jackson coach Carl Gross couldn't find a game on his schedule that he could win.
His team has found three of them already and will look to add a fourth Friday night against a conference rival.
A win over Poplar Bluff would make Jackson undefeated against local opponents this year. Even if they lost their final three and finished 3-6, the Indians would have a strong argument for being the best team in the area.
On the other side of the coin, a win over Jackson would all but seal Poplar Bluff's spot on top of the local football poll.
Picking this game is a tough one. Edington's leg might be the difference.
Final score: Poplar Bluff 24, Jackson 21
Believe it or not, Caruthersville is just one victory away from winning the SEMO Central Conference championship.
The only team standing in their way is Dexter -- last year's champ.
The Bearcats have been nails on defense all year, and their offense finally got on track last week, scoring 28 points against Charleston. This game should come down to the wire.
Final score: Caruthersville 34, Dexter 28
Would all those who jumped off the Portageville bandwagon following the Kennett loss please stand up?
Okey-doke, everybody can sit back down now.
The Bulldogs beat Hayti last week, proving all is still well down in McKay Country.
In Fulton City however, things are terribly, terribly wrong.
Final score: Portageville 42, Fulton City 12
East Prairie's last win over Charleston came back in 1986. Before that, it was 1965. Before that, it was 1951. Basically, it's a game East Prairie never wins.
"The Mismatch of Mississippi County" you might say. That could change this year. The Eagles enter Friday night's game on a three-game winning streak, averaging 44 points per game in that span.
Charleston will have to play well to win.
Final score: Charleston 34, East Prairie 28
When NMCC scheduled this game, it looked like an automatic loss. Now, this looks like a game the Eagles can win.
Mater Dei, after graduating everything from last year's team, is 3-4, losing games to Nashville, Sparta, Breese Central and Quincy Notre Dame.
In order to make the Illinois playoffs, the Tigers have to beat NMCC on Friday then Mascoutah next week.
Not going to happen.
Final score: NMCC 27, Mater Dei 13
Hayti fell to No. 4 in this week's state poll, following Friday's unexpected loss to Portageville.
Up this week is Scott City. The Rams are 2-4, with both victories coming over winless teams.
Final score: Hayti 27, Scott City 14
Chaffee is 0-6, losing by an average score of 42 to 9. Malden is also 0-6, losing by an average score of 26 to 8.
Something has to give.
Final score: Malden 19, Chaffee 6
Cape Central just refuses to play games on Friday night. This week, they're at struggling Sumner on Saturday.
The Bulldogs are 1-5 with their only win coming over Roosevelt.
Not much of a challenge.
Final score: Cape Central 36, Sumner 7
