Two killed in crash

SIKESTON - Two people lost their lives early Saturday morning when they were involved in a one-vehicle accident near Sikeston.

According to reports from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident was reported at 1:38 a.m. when a tractor trailer struck a guard rail on Interstate 55 near Interstate 57. The truck came to rest in a median and caught fire.

New Madrid County Coroner Tim Clayton pronounced the driver and passenger dead at the scene. The names of the victims are being withheld until positive identification is made and their families are notified.
