NEW MADRID - The city council narrowed their alternatives in dealing with trash disposal to three choices: reduce expenses, increase fees or get out of the business. Whatever their final choice is, the users, they agreed, should expect higher fees.

CHARLESTON - Temporary repairs have been made to the broken water well at the city's water treatment plant, according to City Manager Brian Donovan, however, the well is still not pumping to full capacity. Watering of lawns is still banned, Donovan said, until full repairs can be completed. Donovan asked that water still be conserved with watering of trees or plants and washing of vehicles be kept to a minimum.
