Maudie Denton
SIKESTON - Maudie I. Denton, 80, died at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 25, 2003, at her home.
Born Jan. 1, 1923, in Kennett, daughter of the late Henry William and Levadie Mae Hoxworth Abernathy, she had been employed by Wilcox Electric Manufacturing Co. in Kansas City. In 1972, she moved from Kansas City to Sikeston. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Sikeston.
On Jan. 8, 1969, in Kansas City, she married Herbert Guy Denton who preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 1991.
Survivors include: two sons, Bobby Joe Montgomery of Oran and Danny P. Denton of Sikeston; two stepsons, Bob Denton of Barlow, Ky., and Allen Denton of Beaversville, Ill.; five daughters, Peggy Chapman of Morley, Diana Johnson of Vanduser and Linda Meals, Gail Butrum and Carolyn L. Hardin of Sikeston; two brothers, Leroy Abernathy and Bob Abernathy of Morley; four sisters, Fern Thomas of Oran, Tinia Clark of Dexter, Violet Farmer of Sikeston and Pretshie Ellsworth of Pensacola, Fla.; and 22 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were one son, Richard Montgomery; and two brothers and three sisters.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Richard Whitman, pastor of the First United Pentecostal Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the New Morley Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Allan Freeman, Harold Abernathy, Ronnie Chapman, Jeff Montgomery, Mike Montgomery and Michael Dorris.
