CANALOU - Three Southeast Missouri men won places on the Department of Conservation's latest list of master anglers. To make the list, anglers must land, verifiable catches that, while not records, meet stringent minimum size requirements. Willard Robinson of Canalou made the list with an 11 pound, 3 ounce bowfin; Bill Booker of Poplar Bluff made the list with a 3 pound, 1 ounce smallmouth bass; and Michael Epley of Cape Girardeau joined the most recent crop of master anglers by landing an 11 pound, 4 ounce largemouth bass.

NEW MADRID - Some New Madrid city officials came away discouraged from a meeting with a company representative knowledgeable with the state's gaming philosophy. Steve Grogan, who represents Gold Rush Casinos of Colorado, reported to the council after taking part in a recent conference that the gaming commission has decided to slow down in awarding gaming licenses in the future. This decision and the proximity of the Caruthersville boat could make it difficult for New Madrid to be licensed for gaming.

CHARLESTON - Don Daughhetee, veteran councilman was chosen by his fellow council members to preside as mayor for the 1995-96 fiscal year. Elected mayor pro tem was councilman Jackie Whiteside. This action followed the certification of the April 4 election results which returned Whiteside to office and elected Larry Smith to the council.
