Edna Hamlyn

PUXICO - Edna M. Hamlyn, 75, died Sept. 6, 2003, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.

Born July 27, 1928, in Chaonia, daughter of the late Elza and Ruby Davis Caldwell, she lived in Cahokia, Ill., for many years before moving to Puxico in 1964. A retired seamstress, she had operated a daycare in her home and served as librarian for the Puxico Library. Also a volunteer teacher's aide at Puxico Elementary School, she was a member of the Puxico United Methodist Church and VFW Post 7522 Ladies Auxiliary in Puxico.

On Dec. 24, 1949, in Piggott, Ark., she married Harold E. Hamlyn who preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1963.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, David H. and Mona Hamlyn of Gipsy; one daughter and son-in-law, Joy Ruth and Tony Avery of Littleton, Colo.; two brothers, Roy Caldwell of Calvert City and Joseph Caldwell of Woodburn, Ore.; one sister, Alma Hamlyn of Lemay; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

One brother, Emory Caldwell, also preceded her in death.

Visitation begins at 6 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Danny James of Leopold and the Rev. John Adams of Dexter will officiate.

Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery in St. Louis.
