Winford Lewis

ESSEX - Winford Lewis, 91, died Oct. 17, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare in Bloomfield.

Born Feb. 21, 1912, at Flat River, son of the late James Samuel and Emma Leona Lee Lewis, he was a retired brick mason. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was first married to Anna Mae Lee in 1935. In 1968, he married Lorene Delay who preceded him in death in 1992.

Survivors include: two sons, Lowell "Bud" Lewis of Puxico and Roy Lewis of Advance; two daughters, Shirley Lynn of St. Peters and Linda Keith of Dexter; one sister, Osa Mazo of Collinsville, Ill.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a special friend who was his caregiver, Eunice Hendrickson of Essex.

Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Elmo Lewis and Arnold Lewis; and four sisters, Audrey Pinkley, Mildred Sherrill, Billie Meyers and Berniece Durham.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. Wednesday until service time at noon at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. The Rev. Doyle Corlew will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
