SIKESTON - Pvt. Eugene Owens, nephew of Mrs. Claud Comstock and Mrs. Ted Joyce of Sikeston, was killed in action over in Germany last month, according to a message received here by his aunts.
SCOTT CITY - It's those darkhorses from Scott County Central doing it again. They knocked off another seeded team in the form of the Kelly Hawks 72-54. Kelly was seeded third in the Class M Regional. In their opening game of the tournament Tuesday night, they edged past the Matthews Pirates 69-68 in overtime. Matthews had been given the number six seed.
SIKESTON - Students in Sandy Kilgore's second grade class at Lee Hunter Elementary School recently finished a project which required them to design their own candy bar - one that would be their favorite. Students were asked to list the ingredients, design the wrapper, decide on the price and research the origination of candy. Some of the students actually tried to prepare their candy bars.
SIKESTON - Winners in the Tiny Miss Sweetheart Pageant were: Tiny Miss Sweetheart, Lara Malin Fitzgerald; first alternate, Aftan Paige Cato; second alternate, Jordi Ferrell; and third alternate, Brooke Danielle. The pageant was conducted recently at the Sikeston Ramada Inn.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Bulldogs smashed the Cape Central Tigers 71-44 to claim the Class 4A District 1 boys championship in front of a rowdy Cujo's Palace crowd that numbered more than 3,000 and sometimes stood five-
deep in the breezeways of the sold out venue. Cape Central built an early six point lead but by half time the Bulldogs were already winning 31-19.
