Sikeston sweeps Chaffee

CHAFFEE -- Sikeston's tennis team made quick work of Chaffee on Wednesday afternoon, beating the Lady Red Devils 8-0.

"The girls did great," said Sikeston coach Lynne Dewitt. "We went out and knew we had to play hard. All the girls stepped up and did that."

In varsity singles, Elizabeth Killion trounced Chaffee's Mallory Kiefer 8-0. Lindsay Leible rolled past Chaffee's Casey Guzman 8-1, and Charlie Richey drilled Chaffee's Amy Holmes 8-0.

In the No. 4 spot, Chelsea Gilliland won 8-2 over Chaffee's Shelby Rice. Jessica Colwick beat Chaffee's Stefanie Whitaker 8-2, then Brittney Bohannon defeated Chaffee's Brittany Koch 8-2.

In varsity doubles, Killion and Leible defeated Guzman and Rice 6-2. Richey and Gilliland beat Kiefer and Holmes 8-2, then Colwick and Bohannon defeated Koch and Tara Propst 8-1. Sikeston will be back in action today, hosting Kennett at 4 p.m.

In Wednesday's junior varsity match, Emily Bowman beat Chaffee's Tara Propst 6-2 and Hallie Lambert defeated Chaffee's Courtney Walter 6-1.

In junior varsity doubles, Bowman and Lambert beat Walter and Whitaker 6-2.
