Oran junior varsity soars in Woodland Tournament

MARBLE HILL -- Oran's junior varsity volleyball team recently won the Woodland Invitational Tournament, winning three games to go undefeated.

In the first round, Oran beat Woodland in a three-set thriller: 19-5, 16-19, 19-3. The Lady Eagles were led by captain April Eftink with nine service points, followed by the stellar serving of Kayla Graviett who served 100 percent on the night with eight points. Tiffany Glastetter led the team in kills with five.

In the second round, Oran swept Richland 19-17, 19-12. Mandi Wood led the team with six points, followed by Glastetter with five. Wood also led the team with three kills.

In the championship match against Jackson, Oran started off slow by losing the first match 15-19. The team gained momentum after winning the second set 19-16 then won the deciding game 19-9. Wood led the Lady Eagles with 12 points, three aces and four kills.

The tournament victories put Oran's record at 6-1.

"I really hope the girls can continue to play with enthusiasm," said Oran coach Tonya Skinner. "We have some talent and lots of heart, and that's one heck of a combination. I'm so proud of these girls and hope they can keep it up."
