DEXTER -- A Poplar Bluff man was arrested Thursday on felony charges of tampering with over 30 vehicles in the Dexter area. According to the Dexter Police Department, at 12:49 a.m. Thursday Francisco Jose Heredia-Hicks, 19, of Poplar Bluff was arrested on a warrant for class C felony of tampering with motor vehicles in the first degree. DEXTER -- A Poplar Bluff man was arrested Thursday on felony charges of tampering with over 30 vehicles in the Dexter area.

According to the Dexter Police Department, at 12:49 a.m. Thursday Francisco Jose Heredia-Hicks, 19, of Poplar Bluff was arrested on a warrant for class C felony of tampering with motor vehicles in the first degree. Hicks was also wanted for failure to appear from the Poplar Bluff Police Department, and stolen items were found on him.

From Aug. 19-25 the Dexter Police Department has taken approximately 30 police reports regarding thefts from vehicles/tampering with motor vehicles in the generalized area of Dexter, particularly north of Business 60 in between Hickory and West Oak. The suspect would enter vehicles and remove small items such as change, wallets containing credit cards, knives, pepper mace, CDs and a bottle of cologne. Hicks' arrest resulted after the Dexter Police Department assigned extra officers to investigate the area.

Hicks was transported to Dexter Police Department, where he was questioned in regard to the thefts. Hicks admitted to entering approximately 40 vehicles in the Dexter area and stealing items from the vehicles. Hicks remains in jail with bond set at $25,000 cash only.
