LILBOURN - Lynn Griffin of Matthews was crowned Miss New Madrid County Friday night during the Lilbourn Summer Fun Days. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Griffin, the 20-year-old was selected from among 14 candidates.
EAST PRAIRIE - Kid City Museum, part of the East Prairie R-1 School District's summer program, featured the "Land of Balloonia" during the final two weeks of school, which ends Monday. As part of nature studies, students selected their favorite animals - lions, tigers, giraffes, elephants, camels, monkeys - which were fashioned from balloons and placed in the zoo.

SIKESTON - When lawmakers approved Senate Bill 380 their goal was a simple one: an improved education for everyone. To accomplish this goal the R-6 School District is proposing three policies: (1) attendance policy, (2) grading policy that incorporates the MMAT testing and (3) an alternative school/timeout program.
