SCOTT CITY -- Sikeston's Junior American Legion team ran its record to 24-9 on Tuesday night, sweeping district rival Scott County in a doubleheader.
"Its always good to win the district games," said Sikeston coach Jeff Limbaugh. "We're starting to play pretty well. We're coming together at a good time."
Sikeston won the first game 3-0, behind a no-hit performance from Cullen DeHart. In seven innings, DeHart issued just one walk with six strikeouts.
At the plate, Zack Dill led the way, batting 2-for-3 with an RBI. Ben Walters was also 2-for-3 and Jordan Kimball provided a double.
Other hits came from DeHart, Tyler Baker and John Robert Bizzell.
Scott County's Simpher was charged with the loss.
In the second game, Sikeston pulled out a 9-1 victory behind a gutsy pitching performance from Cody Black.
In his first start of the season, Black allowed one earned run on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
"Cody stepped it up and went all seven," said Limbaugh. "He threw extremely well and was a big lift for us today."
At the plate, Kimball was 3-for-4 with a triple. Eric Chappell was 3-for-5 with a double and a triple. Black was 2-for-4 with two doubles and Ross Meredith was 2-for-3.
Bizzell also had a double.
Other hits came from Joe Lincoln, Dill, Colt Pruitt and Ryan Adams. Scott County's Dirnberger was charged with the loss. Felter led the team with two hits. Daughtee, Menz, Ressel and Strobel also had hits for Scott County.
Sikeston improves to 5-1 in district play and will be back in action again tonight, hosting Dunklin County in a doubleheader. The first game starts at 6 p.m.
