NEW MADRID - Jessie D. Davis, 78, died at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 7, 2004, at his son's home in Barnhart.
Born Jan. 20, 1926, in Shadydale, son of the late Clarence and Wilda Jane Wright Davis, he lived in New Madrid most of his life. He was employed with Cargill Grain Co. for 25 years and was a member of Brown-Twitty American Legion Post 595. A U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, he was of the Protestant belief.
In 1952, he married Mary "Polly" Organ of East Prairie.
Survivors include: five sons, Clarence Davis of St. Louis, Jeff Davis and Jessie Davis of Barnhart, Carl Davis of East Prairie and Ray Davis of Maplewood; one daughter, Mildred Wright of Columbia, Ill.; one brother, Ely Davis of Puxico; one sister, Judy Davis of Oklahoma; and 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, John Davis and Samuel "Bo" Davis; and four brothers and four sisters.
Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday with William Henry, officiating.
Graveside military rites will be conducted at the Dogwood Cemetery by Brown-Twitty American Legion Post 595 with the Missouri Military Honors Program.
