SIKESTON - Another Sikeston business, this one with ties of more than a half century, will close its doors.

Doug Fabick, executive vice present and COO, announced Fabick CAT will consolidate the Sikeston and Cape Girardeau branches in order to give greater focus to customer needs in the Bootheel region.

New construction and remodeling is under way at the Cape Girardeau existing parts facility and should be complete by July 1. The Sikeston branch will be closed at that time.

"Sikeston has over 60 years of history for the Fabick family and played a significant part of the company's heritage," the company said in a news release announcing the closure. "The Fabick family would like to thank their employees and customers for their continued support as we move forward to improve facilities and our commitment to ever serve our customers better."

The Sikeston Fabick operation has 14 employees. The company has stated the consolidation should have minimal effect on workers at the Sikeston office and at Cape Girardeau.

Headquartered in Fenton, Fabick CAT is the authorized dealer of Caterpillar equipment, prime and stand-by power systems, parts and service, compact construction, rental and pipeline equipment for mid and southern Missouri and southern Illinois. Officials have indicated the move will provide easier access to the southern Illinois market.

The Cape Girardeau facility is located on Nash Road near Scott City. Other Fabick locations include Fenton, Jefferson City, Columbia, Springfield, Joplin, West Plains and St. Charles in Missouri and Salem, Marion and Troy, Ill.
