PORTAGEVILLE -- The Portageville Lady Bulldogs were back in action Monday night as they beat the South Pemiscot Lady Bulldogs at home, 78-21.

"I was very proud of the girls tonight," said Portageville head coach Eric Ellerbrook. "They came out after a long break Christmas break with great intensity and focus and really played as a team."

Portageville was lead by Kellye Penn who had 19 points while Brittney Walker got in on the action with 16. South Pemiscot was lead by Berry with nine points.

Portageville (14-1) will have a tough test next Thursday when they travel to Naylor to take on the Lady Eagles at 6 p.m.

In the junior varsity action, Portageville came away with similar results with a 49-34 win over South Pemiscot.

JACKSON -- Cassandra Bollinger scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Jackson girls basketball team to a 69-27 victory against New Madrid County Central on Monday.

Ashten Howard tied for the team lead with seven rebounds, and added 11 points for Jackson (8-3).

The Indians opened a 49-17 lead at halftime.

BROSELEY -- Sikeston's ninth grade boys basketball team suffered their first loss of the season Monday night when they fell to the Twin Rivers Royals 44-

39.

"We came out with a fast start," said Sikeston head coach Chris Sarakas. "But foul trouble and some missed opportunities snuck up on us in the end."

The Bulldogs were lead by Janeil Hatchett with 10 points while the Royals were lead by Garrett Stotem and Cole McBroom who each had 14.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Wednesday night when they travel to Poplar Bluff to take on the Dexter Bearcats at 6 p.m.

SIKESTON -- Sikeston's eighth grade team (4-4) took on the Charleston Bluejays Monday night coming away with a 48-27 victory.

"It was a tight game all the way through," said Sikeston head coach Kevin Self. "However, in the fourth quarter our defense really stepped up, creating several fast break opportunities to put us ahead in the end."

The Bulldogs were lead by Eldridge Gipson with 14 points while Maurice Moore and Krushon Scoot each had eight points for the Bluejays.

In the eight grade B game, Sikeston (3-1) fell to the Charleston seventh grade team 32-24.

"You got to give them (Charleston) credit," said Self. "They came out and really played well."

Sikeston was lead by Shaquille Sherrod with seven points while Charleston was lead by Darrion Henderson and Trey Watkins who each had eight points.

The Bulldogs will try their luck again with the Bluejays Thursday night when they travel Charleston. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
