MORLEY - Capt. Carmen "Pug" Mize has been home on furlough visiting his brother, Bill Mize of Morley. Mrs. Mize was with her husband but they returned to his camp Sunday.
NEW MADRID - Chaburao Fakkadrao Avad, a sugar cane and cotton farmer from Maharashtra Statem, India, is spending three weeks in New Madrid County. His trip is part of the International Farm Youth Exchange Program, sponsored by the National 4-H Foundation, Cooperative Extension Service, the International Mineral and Chemicals Corporation and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in India. The IFYE Program is dedicated to the development of better understanding among the peoples of the world.
SIKESTON - John Underwood, the new county director of the Division of Welfare in Sikeston, addressed the Rotary Club Tuesday night at the Rustic Rock on the history of that division in Missouri. He was introduced by Ira Shuffit, program director.
SIKESTON - The Standard Democrat calendar girl for October is Amy Burns, the daughter of Pete and Ann Burns of Sikeston. A finalist in the 1993 Miss Sikeston Contest, Miss Burns was salutatorian of the Class of 1994 at Sikeston Senior High School.

SIKESTON - No serious injuries were reported in an accident at the corner of North West and Wakefield at 3 p.m. Friday. According to police, a 15-year-old Scott City youth failed to stop his vehicle at the Wakefield stop sign and struck a vehicle driven by Bobby Norman of Bloomfield. The Norman vehicle spun around striking a vehicle driven by Frank Henry. Norman was extricated from his vehicle.
