SIKESTON - Scoring in the first, third and fourth periods, the Sikeston High School Bulldogs Friday night defeated Chaffee Indians 21-0 at the Sikeston homecoming game.
SIKESTON - Ernest Elledge, 809 Poplar Drive, junior high school principal, was named Boss of the Year at the annual bosses night dinner at the Holiday Inn. Bosses' Night is sponsored by the Business and Professional Women's Club.
SIKESTON - Seaman Larry Edward Kinsey, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Kinsey, 530 Clayton, was awarded the Purple Heart aboard the USS Prairie.
EAST PRAIRIE - Pride in the Prairie, a newly-organized beautification committee in East Prairie, has already begun a successful campaign toward its ultimate goal of increasing pride in the community. The downtown gazebo is the first in a planned ongoing beautification project.
SIKESTON - Goblins, pumpkins and plenty of imagination were displayed Saturday morning as Brownies from the Cotton Boll Girl Scout Council decorated downtown Sikeston. The girls began painting windows at downtown businesses at 8 a.m.
CHARLESTON - Charleston will soon have a helipad to expedite emergency medical calls. Earl Huff with Gates Rubber Co. met with commissioners Thursday to "bring the county into the 21st Century," he said. The 100-foot by 100-foot space needed will cost approximately $10,000 with Gates matching up to 50 percent dollar for dollar.
MINER - The Eighth Annual Wonderful Weekend for Women, set for 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 31 and 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Miner Baptist Church, will feature Marita Littauer as guest speaker.
SIKESTON - The Board of Trustees of the Sikeston Public Library Board will hold a farewell reception from, 4-6 p.m. Oct. 26, honoring Alice Jackson, library director, for her 11 years of dedicated service to the Sikeston Public Library at the McAnnis Community Room at the library.
