DEXTER - Bill B. Layton, 80, died Nov. 29, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born May 2, 1923, in Malden, son of the late W.B. and Elsie Tuttle Layton, he retired as a truck driver for Campbell 66 and was a member of the Dexter Hospital Auxiliary. He served with the 1901st Aviation Engineers in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and was engaged in the invasion of Okinawa.

On Nov. 28, 1942, at Dexter, he married Pansy Maloney who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two brothers, Fred Layton of Millington, Mich., and Jerry Layton of Dexter; two sisters, Marguerite Burke of Dexter and Francis Russell of Crystal River, Fla.

He was preceded in death by one son, Harry Dean Layton; and one brother, H.L. "Bud" Layton.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Clifford Wray will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
