Lady Bulldogs roll past Malden
MALDEN -- The Portageville Lady Bulldogs won their second game of the season Tuesday night in convincing fashion, downing the Malden Lady Greenwave 69-41.
Portageville (2-0) came out hot, outscoring Malden 15-6 in the first quarter and adding to their lead in the second to go into halftime up 35-18. The Lady Bulldogs continued to pile it on the second half to win going away.
"We played really well in spurts," said Portageville head coach Eric Ellerbrook. "We struggled at times offensively but what helped us was our defense. We still have a lot to work on."
Senior Kellye Penn led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 20 points while juniors Brittney Walker and Jeleea Drake finished with 16 and 14 points respectively.
The Lady Bulldogs will be in action again Monday afternoon when they open play Senath-Hornersville in the Senath-Hornersville Tournament.
Portageville also won the junior varsity game, 43-19, to improve to 2-0. Ronesha Ray led the Lady Bulldogs with 19 points and Janeka McIntyre finished with 11.
