SIKESTON - Construction began today on the new multiple-use 5,000-seat field house to be located on the Sikeston High School campus between Gladys Street and the band shell. SIKESTON - Bea Pegues represented the Scott County Parent-Teachers Association at the three-day state conference. Mrs. Pegues previously attended two state conventions in her 11 years of PTA work. She is president of the Lincoln School PTA.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Post Office is waiting for approval for more space, according to its postmaster, Clarence Sieg. The Postmaster said he expects a decision from the U.S. Postal Service in Washington, D.C., within four to five months.

SIKESTON - Local artist S. Catherine Anderson shares her talented gift for sculpting in a special way this season. She will donate her latest Santa, called "Mischief Remembered," to the American Cancer Society's Christmas Tea fundraiser, which will be held at the home of Troy and Elizabeth Wilson from 3-6 p.m. Dec. 16.

NEW MADRID - The New Madrid County Central Varsity Quiz Bowl Team took first place honors Nov. 15 at the Bernie Invitational Tournament. The junior varsity placed fourth in the tournament.
