NEW MADRID - James Roscoe Hunter, 75, formerly of Chicago, Ill., died Dec. 1, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Aug. 5, 1928, in Chicago, son of the late Samuel N. and Marguerite Pankey Hunter, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Madrid. He was a Knight of Peter Claver and member of Amalgamated Transit Union Division 241 of Chicago.

On July 31, 1950, in LaForge, he married Lillian Glass who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: four children and spouses, Renetta Hunter and James Land of Bolingbrook, Ill., Dr. James Hunter Jr. of Chicago, Karen Hunter and Darryl Mitchell of Matteson, Ill., and Adrienne Hunter Wells and special friend Darvin Green of New Madrid; and 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at Richards Funeral Home, where a rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Bishop John J. Leibrecht will officiate and Monsignor Mike Swalina will preach. The Rev. Randy Tochtrop, pastor of the church, will serve as concelebrant.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Cemetery in Evergreen Park, Ill.

Pallbearers will be: Dr. James R. Hunter Jr., James Land Jr., James Land III, Darryl Mitchell Jr., Darryl Mitchell Sr., Jonathan Hunter, Kellyn Mitchell and Darvin H. Green.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Russell Allen, Dr. John R. Hatcher, Donald Anthony, Louis Glass Jr., Augustus Glass and Charles Pankey.
