BENTON -- Two Benton residents were arrested on drug charges Tuesday night as a result of an investigation by the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force.

According to a Thursday news release, Christopher L. Klughart, 29, and Nichole M. Welker, 19, were arrested and are facing possession of precursor chemicals and attempted manufacture of methamphetamine charges.

A search warrant was executed at the Klughart residence, 6623 State Highway H in Benton, on Tuesday. Both suspects were located inside the residence.

Seized during the subsequent search of the home was a quantity of pseudoephedrine powder and approximately four grams of methamphetamine.

Klughart and Welker were incarcerated in the Scott County Jail and were charged with attempting to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Klughart's bond has been set at $100,000 cash only and Welker's bond is $50,000 cash only. At press time, they remained in jail.

Officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Scott County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation.
