POPLAR BLUFF -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs softball team will be playing in the Class 4, District 1 Tournament at Poplar Bluff High School starting tonight at 6 p.m. against Cape Central.
Sikeston (11-12) and Cape Central tied for votes for the fourth seed. If Sikeston wins, they will play on Thursday at 4 p.m. versus top-seeded Poplar Bluff.
The championship game is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m.
Sikeston's top hitter heading into district play is Allison Blurton, who returned at midseason from a shoulder injury. She's batting .538 on the year with a double and a triple and four runs scored and three RBIs.
Molly Brinkmeyer is hitting .526, leading the team over the course of the season. She's had 13 doubles with 22 runs scored and nine RBIs.
Paige Silverthorn has hit .381 with 16 runs scored and eight RBIs this year. Kaycie Williams (.255) and Beth Ziegenhorn (.246) are Sikeston's next top hitters.
