NEW MADRID - Royalty and parades will highlight the 26th Annual New Madrid American Legion Brown Twitty Post 595's Fall Festival, which opens today and continues through Saturday.
SIKESTON - Lisa, a 1-year-old elephant from Kenya, toured the Sikeston Kindergarten Center and greeted the youngsters on Thursday. Lisa is under the guardianship of the King Royal Circus, which will visit Sikeston on Sept. 23 and will locate next to Shoney's. Sponsored by the Sikeston Lion's Club, the circus will offer shows at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

NEW MADRID - A field trip for all the students in the fourth and fifth grade in the New Madrid County R-1 School District on a Mississippi excursion boat is scheduled for later this month. The 1 1/2 hour ride aboard the boat will be paid for by the district. Dr. Mike Barnes, superintendent, explained he and the faculty believed this would be a "once- in -a- lifetime experience for many of the students."
