Charesl Wathen

SIKESTON -- Charles Dawson Wathen, 72, died at 6:30 a.m. Aug. 15, 2005, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.

Born Jan. 4, 1933, in New Madrid, to the late Luke and Glodine Lamb Wathen, he worked as a lineman for the Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities for 31 years and 10 years for New Madrid Municipal Utilities. He served as corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of Sikeston Elks Lodge 2319. He had received the Boy Scout's Award of Merit and was a member of the Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church in Sikeston.

On March 3, 1957, in Lilbourn, he married Sybil Chambers who survives of the home in Sikeston.

Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Jeana Wathen of Fredericktown and John and Stacy Wathen of Foothill Ranch, Calif.; one brother, William Wathen of Springfield; eight sisters, Allie St. Mary, Helen Perry, Glodine LaValle and Linda Williams, all of New Madrid, Ann Swilley of Portageville, Sarah Sizemore of Lexington, Md., Virginia Slay of Sikeston and Mary Davis of Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Madison and Lydia Wathen of Fredericktown and Luke, Jake and Emma Wathen of Foothill Ranch; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

A private committal service will be held Tuesday with full military honors accorded him by the Missouri Military Honors Guard at Memorial Park Cemetery, then visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time for services at 6 p.m. at Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church with the Revs. John Goodwin and Wendy Downing Goodwin officiating.
