SIKESTON - Miss Laverne Yoffle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Yoffle, will leave this weekend for the University of Missouri.

SIKESTON - Sikeston area farmers may be rescued from the prospect of a poor crop this year caused by abnormally heavy spring rains which prevented normal planting of cotton. The prospect hinges on continued good weather which can produce a bumper crop of soybeans - many planted to replace cotton - and higher prices for the beans.


SIKESTON - Williams C. Carter was appointed full-time fireman with the Sikeston Fire Department today. He replaces Herschel Deal, who resigned last Wednesday.

Sept. 22, 1986

SIKESTON - A strategy to protect the state's groundwater supplies was presented by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources during a meeting Monday night at the Holiday Inn in Sikeston.


MOREHOUSE - A Sikeston Public School bus was involved in an accident about 7:45 a.m. today on a gravel road two miles south of Morehouse, resulting in minor injuries to two passengers, according to the highway patrol.

CAPE GIRARDEAU - The Sikeston volleyball team got back on the right track when the competed at the Semo Tournament on Friday and Saturday. After being derailed on Thursday night by Poplar Bluff, the Lady Bulldogs finished third in their pool with Meadow Heights, Notre Dame, Gideon and Advance. "The girls played a lot better than they did last week," said Sikeston coach Janie Merrick. "We are back up to the level we were at when we won the Semo Conference Tournament." Sikeston will go at it again tonight when they face Charleston.
