SIKESTON - Building permits for Sikeston calling for construction of five frame dwellings in the city were estimated at a cost of $18,000 recently.

SIKESTON - An ordinance revising the plumbing code was passed and approved to become eligible for federal funds in a city council meeting at 5 p.m. Friday.


SIKESTON - When Sikeston resident Hubert Albert got up at 5:30 a.m. to get his son a drink of water, he didn't expect a welcoming committee. A gray fox trotted down the hill where Albert had pitched his tent near the Clearwater Lake dam and bit him.

CHARLESTON - In conjunction with the summer 1987 sesquicentennial celebration planned for Charleston, the Mississippi County Genealogical Society has decided to print a lineage chart book of "celebrating our local past," according to Velma Brown, president of the local society.


SIKESTON - The Sikeston Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended a change in the livestock and animal control ordinance. At previous meetings, complaints were reviewed from people concerned about livestock, primarily horses, being kept for longer than specified in the existing ordinance.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston City Council accepted a bid during their Monday meeting of $19,500 for the demolition of property at the Old Middle School site on Tanner Street. A.C. James, who submitted the low bid to the council in May, extended his bid offer for several months after the project was put on hold because of budget concerns.


SIKESTON - Following a public hearing, the Sikeston City Council increased the tax rate in the general fund by 1 cent to a total of 55 cents per $100 in assessed valuation. The rates for the Park and the Library Funds will remain the same at 15 cents each.
