SIKESTON - Faye N. "Peachie" Wadeking, 87, died April, 26, 2006, at Missouri Veterans Home in Jackson.
Born July 28, 1918, at Campbell, daughter of the late Noah and Dolly Abernathy, she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served as a sergeant in the Women's Army Corps from Aug. 12, 1943 to Jan. 17, 1946, and was a recruiter in the Minnesota Recruiting District where she made personal appearances and conducted informal discussions with potential women recruits along with interviews and testing. She owned and operated Crown Jewelers in Memphis, Tenn., and had been territory manager for Corolla Jewelry in Atlanta, Ga., until her retirement.
On March 23, 1948, she married Robert K. Wadeking who preceded her in death.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Jack Abernathy and Sherman Abernathy; and four sisters, Dallas May Abernathy, Susan Virginia Abernathy, Grace DeShae Fitchpatrick and Fern Eubanks.
She is survived by: one brother, Herman Abernathy of Sikeston; one nephew, Markel Fitchpatrick of Blodgett; and one niece, Billie Ray of Benton.
Visitation is scheduled from noon until time of services at 1 p.m. Friday at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.
Burial with full military rites will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
