SIKESTON - Penicillin, the miracle drug, became available in Sikeston this week for the first time. Drug stores, doctors and hospitals were authorized to keep the powerful drug in stock beginning March 15, and Sikeston joined the nation in ordering its full quota.
SIKESTON - The third event of the Delta Community Concert Association will take place at 8 pm. Sunday in the Sikeston Middle School when the Westminster College Choir, under the direction of George Lynn, will present 14 numbers.
RISCO - Nearly $1 million in federal funds has been awarded for 28 outdoor recreation projects in Missouri, including $7,925 for park development at Risco, according to Fred Lafser, director of the Department of Natural Resources.

Sikeston opens at home Tuesday against Notre Dame.

SIKESTON - Everyone has a niche. For Carrie McMillen, it's definitely spelling. The 14-year-old was named a finalist in the semi-final competition of the district division of the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee conducted Feb. 25 at the Sikeston Middle School. "They said, 'Carrie, you've won.' I thought, 'no I haven't. I just misspelled that word, it was too good to be true. But I had won! I think my eyes went double their size that day. I couldn't believe it! I kept thinking 'oh my gosh, oh my gosh!'"
