ANNISTON - Thomas Joseph, "Tom" Scherer, 62, died at 5:01 a.m. Dec. 24, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Born March 6, 1943, in Benton, to the late Cletus Charles and Celeste Amelia Enderle Scherer, he had lived in Anniston the past 28 years where he was employed with the Gemeinhardt Seed Company and had served as a past alderman and mayor. ANNISTON - Thomas Joseph, "Tom" Scherer, 62, died at 5:01 a.m. Dec. 24, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born March 6, 1943, in Benton, to the late Cletus Charles and Celeste Amelia Enderle Scherer, he had lived in Anniston the past 28 years where he was employed with the Gemeinhardt Seed Company and had served as a past alderman and mayor. He was also a member of the St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston, he was a U.S. Army Veteran.

On Oct. 10, 1966, he married Kay Peters who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Gina and Kevin Graham of Carrier Mills, Ill. and Heather and Clayton Vaughan of O'Fallon; five brothers, Charles Scherer and Cletus Scherer of Benton, James Scherer of Nashville, Tenn., Harold Scherer of Midlothian, Texas and Daniel Scherer of Fariview, Tenn.; four sisters, Ruth Cashion and Celeste Nenninger both of Cape Girardeau, Clara Grider of Cincinnati, and Ann Stuckey of Benton; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday. Jeff Vaughan of Dexter will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie.

Pallbearers will be: Mike Scherer, Gary Scherer, Richard Scherer, Don Scherer, Kenny Scherer and Jason Scherer.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Richard Gemeinhardt, Tony Gemeinhardt, Sam Brown and James Knupp.
