DEXTER - Louis W. Backfisch, 91, died Dec. 24, 2005, at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.
Born March 10, 1914, in St. Louis to the late Dennis and Lisette Schubert Backfisch, he was a charter member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Dexter where he served on the original building committee for the church. A retired salesman for MFA, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On Feb. 8, 1946, at Essex, he married Helen Hoopingarner, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph Backfisch, George Backfisch, Charles Backfisch and Edward Backfisch; and one sister, Anna Niehaus.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Faith Lutheran Church with the Rev. Adam Mueller and the Rev. Michael Mathey officiating.
Burial will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery.
