DEXTER - William E. Acord, 73, died Nov. 1, 2005, in the John Cochran Veterans Administration Medical Center at St. Louis.

Born March 13, 1932, at Dexter, son of the late Arthur Bertis and Pearl Mae Howell Acord, he had worked for over 30 years for Adams and McCord Paint Contractors in Dexter and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War.

On Sept. 29, 1972, at Dexter, he married Judith Magee Smith who survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: one step-daughter, Teresa Smith of Dexter; two brothers, Leroy Bud Acord of Dexter and Donald Acord of Amarillo, Texas; two sisters, Grace Harris of New Madrid and Mary Roberts of LaGrange, Ga.; and one grandson, Charles Carroll.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Randal Eugene Acord and Charles "Chuck" Acord; and three sisters, Esther Brickeen, Mable Breedlove and Ruby Williams.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield with the Rev Mike Foster officiating.

Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
