VANDUSER -- Reta Mavanee "Melva" Martin, 79, died March 9, 2008, at her home.
Born July 22, 1928, in Nauvoo, Ala., to the late Rufus Eligiah and Georgia Peeak Sutherland, she was a member of the Vanduser Church of God, where she served as secretary/treasurer for more than 30 years.
On June 23, 1944, at Haleyville, Ala., she married Kenneth Martin, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons, Bill Martin of Cleveland, Okla. and Tom Martin of Summerville, S.C.; one daughter, Wanda Kaye Swaim of Miami; one brother, Otho Sutherland of Double Springs, Ala.; and five grandchildren and four great-
grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ponder Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Trisha Eskew, pastor of Vanduser Church of God, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
Pallbearers will be: Chris Kiefer, Rodney Casey, Rick Swaim, Jonathan Swaim, David Doyle and Jason Whitten.
Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Martin and Issac Engram.
