MONTGOMERY CITY - Velma Carr Elfrink, 78, formerly of Williamsburg, died at 7:35 p.m. March 16, 2006, at the New Florence Nursing and Care Center.
Born April 3, 1927, in Hopewell, to the late Homer and Dezilla Brugere McClelland, she retired in 1991 as postmaster of Williamsburg after 35 years of service. She was a member of the Old Auxvasse Nine Mile Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg, attended the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City and was a member of the Williamsburg Ladies' Club and the National Association of Postmasters.
On Feb. 15, 1947, in Oran, she married Robert L. Carr. who preceded her in death in 1988. On Aug. 17, 1991, in Montgomery City, she married Ambrose Elfrink, who survives.
Other survivors include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bobby Dale and Sandy Carr and Michael Carr of Fulton; five stepchildren, Delores Cullom of New Florence, Joseph Elfrink and wife, Mia of St. Louis, Christine Ashton and husband, John, of Wright City, Monica Hoeber and husband, Dave of Warrenton, and Jonathan Eflrink of Pilot Grove; one brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Sharon McClelland of California; one stepbrother, Denny McClelland and wife, Jerry, of Minnesota; and five grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, one great-grandson, and two step great-grandchildren.
One brother, Harold McClelland; and one sister, Wanda McClelland, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Old Auxvasse Nine Mile Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. The Rev. James Cruickshank will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Williamsburg Cemetery.
