SIKESTON - James Herman Wood, 90, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Oct. 29, 2007, at his home in Sikeston. He became a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in 1958 and served as a deacon and teacher.

He was born June 16, 1917, in Bradford, Ala., son of the late Jasper Freeman and Lou Nettie Staton Wood.

Originally from Alabama, he was a farmer and put his first crop in at the age of 11. He later relocated to Missouri where he farmed in the Gideon area until 1958. He and his wife, Meg, moved to Sikeston where he worked at Woody's and Bridger Plumbing and later for Robinson Lumber Wholesale. At age 50, he went into the plumbing business for himself, which he gave up when he was 84.

On Nov. 17, 1928, he married Madgeleene M. "Meg" Kinsey, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: four sons and three daughters-in-law, Freeman and Trish Wood of Memphis, Mo., Dannie and Joan Wood and Aaron Wood, all of Sikeston and Bobby and Marva Wood of Topeka, Kan.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Brenda and Marion Pearson and Linda Faye McCoy of Sikeston and Ramona and Markel Fitchpatrick of Blodgett; one brother, Orbin Mallett of Perkins, Miss.; and 46 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and two great-

great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, one son, Edwin Keith Wood; one daughter, Theresa Gayle Wood; four brothers, Henry O. Wood, Jasper T. Wood, Floyd Rice and William Mallett; and one sister, Charlene Mallett O'Neal preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Joe McCullough, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Freeman Wood, Dannie Wood, Bobby Wood, Aaron Wood, Marion Pearson and Markel Fitchpatrick.
