CARUTHERSVILLE - Three persons are in custody as one theft was solved while police search for suspects in another.

Todd Trowbridge reported the theft of the lower unit to a Mercury outboard motor, valued at $2,000, from his 2002 Baha Outlaw 20-foot ski boat. Following the recent tornado, the boat had been laying upside down in a field near the residence where it is normally stored.

Deputies with the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department began interviewing area residents and determined the motor unit was taken sometime Friday night. Also their investigation led to three men, ages 17, 26, and 34, who were taken into custody on charges of first degree tampering and felony stealing.

According to a news release from the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department, the men attempted to get rid of the property by throwing it into the Mississippi River behind the levee near the Kinfolks Ridge area of Pemiscot County. Deputies were able to recover the item.

Bond is set at $10,000 each for the men, who are being held in the Pemiscot County Jail.

Also deputies are investigating a report of a burglary from the David and Tonya McCarter residence at 1296 County Road 401.

The home was entered sometime Thursday by forcing open a side door. Taken was a 12-gauge Maverick Arms pump shotgun and two bottles of prescription medicine.

Two suspects are being sought by officers for questioning in the incident.
