SIKESTON - The national commander of the American Legion will speak at the April 26 noon luncheon meeting hosted by Sikeston American Legion Post 114.
Thomas L. Bock, who was installed as national commander during the August convention in Hawaii, represents the 2.7 million members of the American Legion, the largest veterans organization in the United States.
A Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Bock has been active in the American Legion for the past 36 years in his home state of Colorado. Prior to being elected commander, he held a host of state and national offices with the Legion.
As an advocate for the nation's veterans, Bock has testified before the House and the Senate on legislation pertaining to veterans.
Recently Bock toured the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Following the tour, Bock praised the troops in charge of the facility. He indicated the treatment of the prisoners was excellent and stated the facility was adequate.
Also he toured in Iraq where he noted troop morale was high. His son, Adam, just completed a tour in a Iraq as a helicopter pilot.
All members of Post 114 are urged to attend.
