DEXTER -- Ruth Ilene Shipman, 89, died Sept. 10, 2007, at the Central Gardens Residential Care in Dexter.

Born Feb. 20, 1918, in Dexter, daughter of the late Lonis and Ruby Duncan Cook, she was co-owner and founder of Shipman's Market in Dexter. She was affiliated with the First Baptist Church in Dexter.

On July 31, 1946, in Piggott, Ark., she married Ray C. Shipman, who preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1989.

She was also preceded in death by: one daughter, Francis Minton; two brothers, Dale Cook and Tivis Cook; and one sister, Mildred Cook.

Survivors include: four sons and three daughters-in-law, Paul and Mary Belle Minton of St. Albans, W.V., Dr. John D. and Julie Minton and Charles and Margaret Shipman of Dexter, Roy L. Minton of Sorento, Ill.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dickey and Merideth Minton Gray of Byhalia, Miss., Paul and Carol Rainey of Palestine, Texas, and Jean and Fred Silver of Old Hickory, Tenn.; two brothers, William Cook of Swansea, Ill., and Curtis Cook of St. Augustine, Fla.; and 14 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday.

Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
